Drains

 
A drain cock or valve with a suitable discharge pipe shall be fitted to each water gauge.


Reg. 322

Protectors

Where tubular glass water gauges are fitted, substantial protectors shall be provided. The glass shall be suitable treated to prevent splintering.

Glass size

Tubular water gauge glasses shall be not less than ½ inch and not more than 3/4 inch outside diameter.

Safety Devices


Water gauge glass mountings shall be fitted with self-closing devices in the bottom arm and it is recommended that a similar device should be fitted in the top arm.

Gauge columns


Where the gauges are mounted on a column there shall be no connecting passage between the top and bottom arms of the column unless valves or cocks are fitted between the columns and the boiler.

Isolating Cocks


Where isolating cocks or valves connecting water gauge pipes to the boiler are fitted, they shall be not less than 1 inch bore and of the bolted cover type with separate packing gland.
