Strengthening of Flat End Plate at Manhole
||In the End Plates of Lancashire
Boiler type, the mudhole in the lower part of the front
end plate shall be fitted with a flanged riveted strengthening
ring, the thickness of the flat portion of which shall
be not less than (1.5T + 1/8 inch) where T equals the
thickness of the end plate in inches.
||In boilers 7 ft. 6 inches diameter
and above, the mudhole frame shall be fitted with a peak
to reinforce the portion of the end plate between and
below the furnaces, and this peak shall be securely riveted
thereto with rivets of similar pitch to the remainder
of the frame.
||In all cases the front end
plate gusset stays below the furnaces shall be placed
as closely as possible to the mudhole frame.
||Where flat end plates are flanged
for connection to the shell, the inside radius of flanging
shall be not less than 1.75 times the plate thickness,
with a minimum of 1½ inches.
